- Avoid sun exposure for two weeks prior to the procedure. Apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher when venturing out in the sun. Sun-induced melanin or pigment may cause adverse effects or reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Avoid Aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen for seven days before and two weeks following therapy.
- Avoid Gingko, ginseng, garlic, fish oil, vitamin E, and iron for seven days before therapy.
- Stop taking retinol or Retin-A (tretinoin) 7 days before the procedure.
- On the day of treatment, make sure you’re fully hydrated (drink 3 liters of water).
- Apply a lubricant (Aquaphor® Healing Ointment or Vaseline®) to the area and cover with a non-stick dressing and paper tape for ten days.
- Prevent trauma to the treated area for the first 7-10 days following treatment.
- Avoid physical exercise (aerobics, lawn mowing, sports activities) for 1- 2 days to reduce the risk of infection. The patient should not participate in rough physical activities (playing football or ice hockey, etc.) for ten days after treatment.
- Avoid excessive perspiration to the area as it may cause tissue disruption.
- Daily, a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen SPF 30 or greater throughout the treatment duration.
- Once skin irritation or crusting resolves, you may resume your routine skincare regimen.
